I can honestly say that I love animals from the bottom of my heart. ‘Like’ is not a strong enough word for how I feel, just as ‘happy’ doesn’t serve when trying to describe my reaction when I see, say, a dog given a new home, or a cat rescued from abuse.
As a result, I’ll never truly understand why or how some people can abuse and neglect animals and think nothing of it. Neither will I cease seeking justice for those pets who have fallen victim to their owner’s malicious intentions.
A pet owner caught on camera repeatedly punching his dog in the head in Victoria Park, Berkshire, England, has been jailed and banned for keeping animals for 10 years.
Robert Black, who was caught on camera attacking his dog, was found guilty of causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal. He will have to serve 23 weeks in prison, as well as pay a £115 victim surcharge.
Black’s abhorrent actions were caught on film on December 21, 2018. The CCTV footage shows Black pulling his dog up by the neck and hitting it in the face five times.

Luckily, the dog wasn’t seriously harmed during the incident, though will no doubt have psychological scars relating to the trauma.
Police swooped on Black after surveying the footage in the park, taking both dogs from him under the Animal Welfare Act.
The investigating office, PC David Burleigh, said: “Black demonstrated significant cruelty to his dog by punching it several times in the face, with no concern for its welfare.
“This behaviour is clearly totally unacceptable for a pet owner and I am pleased that not only has he received a prison sentence for his actions, but that he has been banned from owning animals for the next 10 years.
“We take reports such as these seriously and will look to investigate and take action against anyone who carries out this type of offence.”
According to reports, both dogs have since been rehomed in loving families and will have a second chance at life.
I’m so happy that Robert Black won’t be able to hurt these dogs anymore, and that he received some sort of prison sentence for his crime.
To hurt and abuse animals in your care is a despicably low act, and should never be acceptable in society.
