Jaime Grabowski was finishing up her bus route on December 18 around midnight when she spotted two dogs running through the street.
The animal lover couldn’t bear the thought of leaving the pit bull and Doberman pinscher alone in the cold – it was around 20 degrees that night – so she opened the window of her Milwaukee County Transit System (MCTS) bus and called out to them.
“Hey, you two! You need to go home, right now!”
The bus’ security cameras captured Grabowski exiting her bus and rounding up the two pups.
As she guided them inside her warm bus, she contacted dispatchers to alert them about her discovery. While they waited for police to arrive she entertained them as best as she could.
The two dogs were eventually transported to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission.
It turned out that the dogs, both around two years old got loose from a backyard about two and a half miles away from where Grabowski found them. Their family had been searching for them all night, but was unable to locate them.
But finally, just days before Christmas the family and their “very sweet and playful” dogs were reunited and it was all thanks to Grabowski.
Not only did Jaime receive recognition from the pups’ family, but on January 2 she received the Compassionate Action Award from PETA for rescuing the dogs.
