When the world lost Steve Irwin it lost a man who had dedicated his life to saving animals and educating others on the millions of creatures we share this planet with.
He may be gone, but thankfully his incredible work and infectious enthusiasm endures through his family.
According to reports, the Irwin family, including Steve’s children, Bindi and Robert, have rescued and treated over 90,000 animals, including many burned or injured in Australia’s devastating bushfires.
Robert Irwin took to Instagram to reveal how Ollie, an orphaned platypus, was patient number 90,000 at the Wildlife Hospital.
Bindi, meanwhile, said her heart had been broken by the bushfires terrorizing the state of New South Wales.
“With so many devastating fires within Australia, my heart breaks for the people and wildlife who have lost so much,” she said.
“My parents dedicated our Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital to my beautiful grandmother,” she continued We will continue to honour her by being Wildlife Warriors and saving as many lives as we can.”
Only last week did etymologists estimate that more than 480 million animals may have lost their lives due to the Australian bushfires. As per the BBC, 25 people have died since September, while more than 2,000 homes have been destroyed.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all the lives affected by these terrible bushfires.
