It’s always inspiring when people adopt older animals from shelters. Senior cats and dogs are often overlooked in favor of younger animals, and as time goes by it becomes even less likely they’ll find a forever home.
Which makes it so incredible that one woman not only opened her heart to an older cat, she went back and adopted his friend too—an even older cat.
Two cats named Mojo and Max were dropped at Friends of Anne Arundel County Animal Control in Maryland.
In 2015, Mojo was 11 and Max was 16. It didn’t seem likely that either would find a home… until one woman entered the shelter and found Mojo.
While the cat had been shaved for flea allergies and had “messed up feet,” the woman fell in love anyway, nicknaming him “Happy Feet.”
While Mojo proved to be a great pet, but the woman still felt something was missing…
So she returned to the animal shelter and asked for Mojo’s old friend, Max!
She said she just couldn’t get the other cat out of her mind: “The idea of him living out his life in a cage just broke my heart,” she said, according to a post by the animal shelter.
The two old friends were reunited, and even better, the old cats finally had a place to spend their twilight years.
Sadly, Max has since passed away. According to his Instagram he died in November 2016.
But the important thing is that he got to spend the last year of his life happy, surrounded by his best cat friend and a loving owner.
It’s a story that shows the huge difference you can make by opening your heart and home to a shelter pet, especially an older one.
