11 year old Hamdü Sena Bilgin lives in a small village outside of Rize in Turkey. She and her family own a small farm where they raise goats for their milk.
Hamdü spends her days together with the goats, taking care of them and herding them through grassy areas where they can graze.
One day, 10 months ago, something happened that caused her to react like a true hero – and now the photos of Hamdü are spreading across the internet.
This is Hamdü and her goats. Every day, whatever the weather, she takes the goats on long walks so they can have some exercise and eat something.
She always has her dog Tomi with her, and during the winter they make their way through thick snow for hours at a time.
One cold winter day, something suddenly happened that made Hamdü worried. She was high up on a snowy mountain with the goats when one of them suddenly fell on the ground to give birth.
Hamdü suspected that the goat and the newborn kid would have trouble returning down the mountain on their own, so she decided to step in.
First, she led the other goats back to the farm and fetched two backpacks from the house. Then she returned to the new goat mom back on the mountain – together with her dog Tomi.
She placed the goat mom in the bigger backpack, and put the kid in Tomi’s backpack. Then they carefully made their way down the mountain and back to the farm.
The mom rested calmly in the backpack, and kept a watchful eye on her kid the whole time.
Thanks to Hamdü’s smart thinking, all of the goats returned home safely that day. What a quick-thinking, resourceful girl!
