The cruelty of puppy mills has left thousands of animals in very distressed states and some with serious health problems.
These excessive breeding sites are homes to dogs forced to have babies before they’re ready who are often stuck in cramped cages without the proper care and attention.
Ruggles a tiny Shih-Tzu puppy was one of the lucky dogs rescued from a puppy mill before he grew into an adult.
His rescuers decided a wonderful way to help him overcome the trauma he’d experienced was to introduce him to a new friend.
Chompers the kitten had been found alone under a porch when she was only two days old and introduced to Ruggles.
Thankfully their first magical meeting was recorded and already 9 million people have watched their adorable exchanges.
The two seem to be very curious and while Chompers clearly wants to play fight, Ruggles just looks like he wants a hug, as he tries to snuggle up to the playful kitty.
Ruggles and Chompers went on to be adopted into forever homes.
Ruggles became an official ambassador for the shelter that rescued him to help educate school kids on puppy mills. He even has his own blog charting all his adventures.
And for those wondering why these adorable little fluff balls weren’t adopted together a note on their YouTube page explains why.
“For those wondering why they were not adopted together… that was the shelter’s original plan, but Chompers (true to her name!) became too rough with little Ruggles, and due to his health problems, it was determined that it was in both of the animals’ best interest to be adopted separately. They are both happy and very much loved!”
I’m so glad these cute creatures got a second chance in homes where they are loved and cared for properly.
