Animals should not have to live their lives in misery and be killed just for the sake of fashion. Sadly, many clothing and style companies have farmed wildlife to make their products.
Luckily, this practice has increasingly fallen out of favor: more and more people have turned against products like fur coats and mink eyelashes, and companies have increasingly changed their practices to spare these animals from becoming clothes.
Now, animal rights groups are celebrating a big victory after one major clothing company has announced the end of “exotic” animal skins in their clothing.
Clothing giant PVH Corp., owner of brands like Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, Van Heusen, IZOD and others, announced they would be ending their use of exotic animal skins, including crocodiles, snakes and ostriches.
The news was celebrated by PETA, who says they have been pressuring the company for over a decade to end the use of these skins in their products.
“Every alligator-skin or snakeskin purse, belt, or shoe is made from skinning someone who didn’t want to die a violent, bloody, and painful death,” PETA wrote.
Animals who are bred for their skin usually live in poor condition, living in cramped quarters.
The decision will spare these animals their lives and allow these animals to keep living in the wild. PETA points out that alligators can live up to 50 years “when they’re not killed for boots.”
What great news! Exotic animals like crocodiles and snakes don’t deserve to live in misery just for our fashion. Share this story if you agree!
