There are many dogs in shelters waiting for their forever homes, dreaming of one day having a cozy house to live in. But for now, these dogs are often confined to crowded and underfunded shelters, sometimes not even having a bed to sleep in.
But one shelter has found a way to give some of their rescue dogs the home experience… by giving them their very own houses!
Austin Pets Alive!, a nonprofit no-kill shelter, has introduced “tiny homes” for their dogs, providing a quiet comfortable space for the pets who need it.
“Tiny homes” have been the new trend in housing in recent years, with many couples opting for cozier living spaces. But we’ve never seen the idea used to help dogs like this.
Complete with both heat and air conditioning, plus lots of personal space including a yard, it’s the perfect way to transition these dogs from the shelter to their forever homes.
“The idea is to provide more of a home-like environment for the dogs, for decompression, training, and quality-of-life purposes,” Austin Pets Alive! wrote on Facebook.
“The goal is that the dogs assigned to these cottages will move in permanently until we are able to find a foster or adoptive home for them – no more kennel life for these lucky pups!”
The tiny homes will also serve as workspaces for shelter staff and volunteers.
The houses are still a work-in-progress, but the first dogs are expected to move in to their new little homes next month.
What a great idea! These dogs are sure to love their new living space, helping them get used to having a home of their own.
