The wildfires in California have caused widespread devastation and our hearts are with all the victims. Many have been displaced or lost their homes.
But in every disaster people look for some good news, like pets miraculously surviving the fires. Now one lucky cat is finally reuniting with his family.
After the fires in Carmel Valley last month, firefighters alerted SPCA Monterey County that they had found cats in a burned van.
They responded and picked up the cats, including a kitten named Bubs, who suffered burns on his paws.
They treated his injuries, and said they didn’t affect the kitten’s bright personality, describing him as “happy, affectionate, and getting lots of love.”
The SPCA tracked down Bubs’ owners, and discovered that they were forced to leave him behind during the fast-approaching fire.
“His family had no time to flee the oncoming wildfire, and Bubs ran off when they were trying to put their kitties in a carrier,” the SPCA wrote.
The family lost their home in the fire, and since Bubs needed so much care for his burns, they continued to foster him. “All of this was done at no charge to the family or to any other fire evacuee,” the rescue wrote.
In the meantime, Bubs continued to heal and made friends with the other animals.
And now, Bubs is finally home with his family. After losing so much in the fire, we’re sure they were thrilled to have their pet back safe and sound.
“Our hearts are so happy – he is now healed, healthy, and back home with his loving family,” the SPCA wrote, sharing a photo of Bubs reunited with his owners.
Sometimes we just need a little positive news in the middle of a terrible situation. We’re so glad Bubs is home safe and sound, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires!
