Drools, the dog who has spent 720 days in shelter, finally finds his forever home

There are many dogs in shelters waiting for their forever homes. While it’s always hoped that a dog will quickly get adopted, some end up waiting months or even years for reasons beyond their control.

Every dog deserves a home, and no one should have to wait in a shelter that long—which is why one rescue worked hard to get the word out about a dog who was in their care for almost two years.

Meet Drools, a four-year-old pitbull/boxer mix who was at Conour Animal Shelter for over 720 days.

Drools says "Good morning everybody. Have a great Monday and come adopt me. I'm an amazing snuggler."…

According to KRDO, Drools’ long tenure has broken records at the shelter. But his carers made sure he wouldn’t have to wait much longer.

Kacey Widetich, who works for Relay for Rescue, stays at the shelter with the dog so he won’t have to be alone. She says that despite all their efforts, it has been difficult to find a forever home for Drools.

“Not a lot of exposure because of [the shelter’s] location,” Kacey told KRDO. The shelter is located in Monte Vista, Colorado.

“And because we’re kind of particular about what kind of forever home he goes to,” Kacey added. “He does need to go to a home where he’ll be the only pet, no other dogs or cats.”

Despite that limitation, the staff knows Drools has a perfect family out there who will love him. He has been described as a “lovebug” and a “perfect snuggler.”

While he needs to be the only pet, he’s good with kids, and is a playful active dog who loves to be pet.

He is also up to date on all his vaccinations and is trained in basic commands.

UPDATE 11/20

Kacey posted heartwarming photos of an overjoyed Drools celebrating with his new owner on his long-awaited “adoption day.”

According to CBS Denver, Drools’ new owner drove all the way from Boulder to bring the dog home.

And it sounds like they will be very happy together.

“I feel like I won the lottery,” the man told KRDO as they left the shelter.

It was a proud moment for the shelter, who not only finally got a happy ending for Drools, but had good news for other dogs as well.

“This has been an experience of a lifetime,” Kacey told CBS Denver. “Not only did we find Drools his forever home, but we also found forever homes for three other dogs in the meantime.”

Congrats to Drools on finally finding his forever home! Share this amazing news!
