It’s a sad state of affairs for so many stray dogs who end up in shelters and pounds with a limit on how many days they can spend there.
So many perfectly healthy dogs have to be put down if homes aren’t found for them in just a week.
For sweet stray Lola, she was just a few years old when she was brought to a shelter with her litter of 6 puppies.
She spent nearly half of her life in a Wickenburg animal shelter as she watched her babies all find forever homes while she remained at the shelter.
In more than 30 states in the U.S, shelters and pounds aren’t legally obligated to keep animals for more than 1–7 days.
If homes aren’t found for them they are often euthanized as most shelters are operating at full capacity with no end to the number of animals they take in.
Staff at the Wickenburg animal shelter tried their best to find Lola a forever home but couldn’t. It was a mystery why this well-behaved, potty-trained and affectionate dog wasn’t adopted.
Staff contacted Arizona Humane Society’s (AHS) Project Reachout Program – an initiative to save pets by working with other shelters, to ask for help in finding Lola a new home.
Thanks to determined staff at Wickenburg and AHS, Lola was placed at another shelter in the state, where she was adopted in just 24 hours.
After 400 days in a shelter Lola finally had the loving home she deserved.
“We couldn’t be happier for this sweet girl and her new family,” AHS officials wrote, as per Fox10 News.
She’s now living her best life with her forever family in Mesa, Arizona thanks to help from these animal heroes.
Lola is one of almost 900 pets the Arizona Humane Society has helped.
I’m so happy for Lola! Thank goodness shelter staff refused to give up on her and did all they could to help her.
