Every shelter dog dreams about being adopted to their forever home. But sadly, for some it takes a long time for no fault of their own.
Like one good dog, who spent well over a year in a shelter, waiting for someone to finally take her home. And recently, her wish came true.
Last month, Arizona Humane Society posted about a two-year-old pittie named Lola, who had been at the Humane Society of Wickenburg for “400 days and counting.”
Lola had entered the shelter with a litter of puppies. The pups have since been adopted, but Lola still didn’t have a home of her own.
No one who met the good dog could figure out why.
“She is a happy, wiggly pup who loves people, is well-behaved, and is house trained,” Arizona Humane Society wrote.
“When this sweet girl isn’t out in the play yard getting her wiggles out, she can be found snuggling with her favorite two-legged friends and getting some well-deserved belly rubs!”
The Arizona Humane Society took Lola in, for a change of scenery and to try to help her find a forever home.
This proved to be the perfect move: within 24 hours, Lola finally found her forever home!
“We couldn’t be happier for this sweet girl and her new family!” the Humane Society wrote.
The AHS says they have found homes for 900 dogs just like Lola over the years thanks to collaborations with other shelters through their Project Reachout Program.
“[Lola] is a perfect example of the importance of collaboration between rescues and shelters to help save as many homeless pets’ lives as possible!” they wrote.
