It’s always great when a rescue dog gets adopted, especially one who has gone through so much trauma. It’s nice to know that after enduring so much they will now have a safe place to call home.
That’s the inspiring update to one recent story: a puppy who was saved after being left in a dumpster has now found a new forever home!
According to a post from the Columbus Department of Public Service, Devision of Refuse operator Dave Carlson was servicing dumpsters at an apartment complex, and saw a puppy inside the dumpster.
The poor pup was “struggling to get out from under the trash,” and immediately entered the dumpster to dig the puppy out.
It seems the puppy’s former owner intentionally left them in the garbage, and it’s easy to imagine how things could’ve gone bad if the dog hadn’t been noticed in time before the trash pickup.
“It’s shocking seeing a dog in the dumpster. It was upsetting to see someone just throw it in there and get rid of it like that,” Carlson’s supervisor Logan Sieg told 10 WBNS.
But thanks to Carlson’s quick intervention, the puppy was saved. According to the Facebook post the puppy was given peanut butter crackers and water and was “doing great” after the ordeal, and they said he would soon be put up for adoption.
Carlson and Sieg were praised for “going above and beyond in service” for saving the pup — and now, the little dog has gotten a very happy ending.
According to 10 WBNS, the puppy was taken to Franklin County Dog Shelter, where he was soon adopted by a family. They have named the dog Duke.
Franklin County Dog Shelter said the 6-month-old dog was now “doing GREAT in his forever home,” and thanked everyone for their support.
“Together, we can make a BIG difference in the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves,” they wrote on Facebook.
We’re so glad this sweet dog finally has a home after all he’s been through. Thanks again to the public service employees who helped save him, and for his new adopters for giving him a sweet forever home!
