It’s truly unbelievable how cruel some people can be to dogs, but thankfully there are also people willing to step up and give these abused animals a fighting chance.
Like one poor Chihuahua puppy, who was shot in the neck with an arrow, but is now on the road to recovery thanks to the vets who saved her.
According to a press release from the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, the four-month-old female Chihuahua was discovered when a woman called 911, saying she heard the dog screaming.
Animal Services officer Matthew Perez responded to the call, and found the puppy had a serious injury: an arrow punctured through her neck.
The officer rushed the dog to Coachella Valley Animal Campus, holding the dog and comforting her along the way.
An arrow through the neck can be a fatal injury as it can puncture vital arteries, but thankfully that wasn’t the case. Vets examined the dog with x-rays and determined the arrow could be removed safely. The procedure was overseen by Registered Veterinary Technician Ivan Herrera and Animal Services staff veterinarian Dr. Luis Lizarraga.
The incident shocked the staff, who wondered who could’ve done such a thing to such a sweet dog, but thankfully the dog is going to survive.
“Ivan did such an amazing job to save this dog’s life,” said veterinary technician Emily Ellison, who assisted in the dog’s treatment. “It’s amazing to see her affection, despite what occurred. She is such a sweet puppy. I cannot imagine why anyone would do something so terrible to such an innocent creature. It’s very sick.”
It isn’t known who is responsible for the attack, but Animal Services is seeking information. But their main focus is the dog’s wellbeing and getting her a new home.
“For someone to willfully shoot this poor pup with an arrow is disgusting,” said Animal Services Director Erin Gettis. “We are shocked and we hope someone can provide us any information as to who did this. Meanwhile, we’ll continue to treat this puppy and work on finding her a suitable home.”
It’s unbelievable that anyone could hurt such a sweet animal in such a horrible way. This poor pup could’ve died, but she pulled through thanks to the help of these animal services officers and veterinarians.
We hope that this dog makes a quick recovery and finds a loving new home soon! Share this story!
