Man stops to save stray kitten from the road — then gets ‘ambushed’ by 12 other kittens

It’s always sweet to see people rescuing stray animals in need of help — but one man got a lot more than he bargained for, after he realized the kitten he was helping had a lot of friends.

Robert Brantley, of Pioneer, Louisiana, was heading to the shooting range when he came across a kitten by the side of the road, and decided to stop and help it, according to FOX 13.

“The wife has been wanting a cat for the farm; figured I’d stop and rescue the thing,” Robert wrote.

“He [was] gonna get killed for sure,” he says in a video, after grabbing the kitten from the roadside. The kitten is so tiny and young that it’s in danger of being hit by a car or starving without food and water.

But while the kitten was a stray, he soon found out that that didn’t mean it was alone: after seeing Robert’s kindness, a whole horde of a dozen cats appeared from the grass, eager to be rescued as well.

“Oh my gosh!” Robert says. “Oh my gosh there’s more!” he says as the cats keep coming, swarming around his legs. “We got a kitten problem… who would do this?”

“I thought I was saving one!” the exasperated man says.

But he got a lot more than he bargained for after being “ambushed,” and initially tells the kittens “I can’t take y’all,” he did in fact take all the kittens with him.

Robert managed to wrangle up the kitty gang into his van. “I couldn’t keep up with them as I would throw one in and 2 would jump out,” Robert wrote on Facebook. “So I had to close the door with the window down and funnel em in.”

Despite the challenges, it seems the kittens are having a good time at Robert’s home. In a follow-up post, he said he was getting the kittens situated with bedding, food and water.

The videos also show the kittens playing and roaming around the yard, much to the delight Robert’s children. “Kids love them,” Robert wrote.

In another follow-up video, Robert gives a bath to one of the kittens named Scout — the original kitten he picked up from the road.

After his story went viral, he thanked his followers and supporters for providing advice and help with supplies. While suddenly becoming the caretaker of a huge group of kittens is no doubt overwhelming, it seems he’s giving these kittens all the best care possible.

According to FOX 13, Robert and his family are working to find homes for the kittens — but they are adopting Scout as their own.

Sometimes when you rescue an animal you get more than you expected, but it’s great that Robert opened his heart and home to all 13 of these kittens!

We hope these kittens find good homes soon! Share this heartwarming story!
