It’s really heartbreaking how some people treat animals. Some people literally treat them like garbage: we’ve seen too many stories of discarded pets found in trash cans and dumpsters.
That was the case recently for one poor dog — but thankfully, his story now has a happy ending.
According to a Facebook post from Franklin County Dog Shelter & Adoption Center, a City of Columbus employee working at a local park recently heard the sound of “cries for help” coming from a garbage can.
He looked inside, and at the bottom found Oscar, a 10-week-old puppy who is believed to have been abandoned.
Deputy Jones of the Franklin County Department of Animal Care and Control then took the poor discarded puppy to Franklin County Dog Shelter, where he got the care and medical attention he needed.
While it’s heartbreaking to think about someone abandoning this adorable dog and how scared and lonely Oscar must have been, hope was around the corner.
The shelter recently hosted a “clear the shelters” event, which was a huge success: according to the shelter, 200 dogs got adopted out this week.
And thankfully, that included Oscar, who found his forever home. The shelter shared a photo of Oscar with his new family, who will surely love him more than his last owner.
It’s a reminder of how important it is to adopt dogs from shelters. Thanks to all the kindhearted people choosing to adopt, Oscar and his fellow shelter dogs now have loving homes, freeing the shelter to take on even more pets in need.
“While Oscar cannot thank you himself, we can,” Franklin County Dog Shelter wrote. “We are forever grateful for our Community’s ongoing support in helping animals in need and for speaking up for those without a voice. Thousands of homeless animals, just like Oscar, are now living better and healthier lives because of the generosity and compassion shown by our community. Thank you!”
We’re so glad Oscar got adopted and has moved from a trash can to a loving new home! ❤️
