Stray dog had plastic bowl stuck on head: rescue team goes the extra mile to free her

Sometimes animals get stuck in some pretty tricky places and need a little human help to get free. That was the case for one dog, whose head was trapped in a plastic bowl for days.

But one team of rescuers went the extra mile to track the dog down and set her free.

On July 16, the Manville Police Department, in Texas, shared a photo on Facebook of a loose dog whose head was trapped inside a plastic bowl.

People wanted to help the dog get free, but rescue efforts proved difficult, as the dog would run off as soon as anyone approached it.

“They darted him but he ran off into the words and they weren’t able to locate him with drones,” Manville Mayor Dan Davis wrote in a Facebook comment. “Myself and others have done searching and weren’t able to find him and others are organizing another round of searches.”

Police and community members continued their search — then, the next day, they had a breakthrough. According to Kellye Pearson-Baker, a community member helping out in the search, they spotted the dog and laid a trap.

Then in an update, she announced that the dog had been successfully caught and was on her way to the vet. “Thank you for everything and stepping up for this poor baby,” she wrote on Facebook, thanking the people who helped in the search.

Photos and videos show the team finally removing the jar from the dog’s head, and she looks very relieved to finally be free:

It’s not uncommon for stray and wild animals to get their heads trapped in discarded containers: they put their heads in looking for food and accidentally get stuck with no way out.

People can prevent situations like these by putting lids back on cans and jars before disposing them, and by putting lids on garbage and recycling containers.

Thank you to everyone who went the extra mile to track down this dog and get her free from that plastic bowl! Please share this story if you love animals!
