Woman visits shelter a year after dog went missing — and spots a very familiar face

There’s nothing more heartbreaking than when a pet goes missing. You search everywhere, but as weeks and months go by you worry your furry friend might be gone for good.

But it’s important to not lose hope entirely: sometimes lost pets return to us in the most unexpected ways.

That was the case for one woman, who made a casual visit to an animal shelter a year after her dog disappeared — and made an incredible discovery…

Jade, a woman from Union County, North Carolina, was devastated last year when her dog Smokey went missing.

After her dog was missing for a year, Jade no doubt stopped expecting him to come home. But sometimes, miracles happen.

While waiting for her kids to get out from school, Jade decided to kill time browsing Union County Animal Services. There, in the adoptable dogs section, a very familiar looking dog suddenly caught her eye.

It was a dog listed as “Shiloh” who looked exactly like the long-lost Smokey. Jade alerted the staff, and brought up photos of her missing dog — their unique markings were exactly the same. It really was Smokey!

It must have been fate: what are the odds that Jade just happened to casually visit the shelter that day, and her missing dog was still there up for adoption?

Jade and Smokey were reunited at last. “We couldn’t be happier for Jade and Smokey and we’re thrilled to have played a part in bringing them back together,” Union County Animal Services wrote on Facebook.

“Here’s to many happy moments ahead for this reunited family!”

It seems that Smokey’s microchip was out of date, which is why no one was able to connect the dogs and contact Jade. The chip’s info has now been updated.

The story went viral, and many were moved by this sweet and unexpected reunion.

“Love, love, love this sweet story…Happy endings do exist,” one comment reads.

“God puts us where we are suppose to be,” another added.

What a miracle — we’re so glad Smokey was found after being missing for a year! Please share this story!
