Crown Heights apartment building where dog was thrown to its death

Man arrested after throwing pit bull from 14-story balcony, charged with animal cruelty

A horrific act of animal cruelty shocked a New York City neighborhood as a pit bull was tossed from a 14th story balcony — now, the alleged culprit has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty.

On the morning of November 1, a man in Crown Heights, Brooklyn reportedly grabbed his friend’s dog, a young pit bull, during a dispute and tossed the dog from the resident’s 14th-floor balcony. The pit bull died from its injuries.

NYPD Detectives from the Animal Cruelty Investigation Squad launched an investigation in partnership with the ASPCA. After building a case, they arrested 33-year-old Alberto Morris for the crime on Monday, “ensuring the individual faced justice for their heinous act,” the NYPD wrote.

According to PIX 11, Morris is being charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal mischief, and torturing an animal, citing court documents.

Morris, who does not have any prior arrests, pled not guilty and is out on supervised release, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.

Local dog lovers were horrified by the crime, and hope that the arrest leads to justice for the poor pit bull. “That makes me tear up,” Melissa Evans, a local dog sitter and walker, told News 12 Brooklyn. “I don’t know what kind of evil people have in their hearts.”

What a horrific act of cruelty — that poor dog 😢🤬 We hope that if this man is found guilty he faces major consequences for this murder.
