It’s officially Christmas season, and many of us are busy putting up our holiday decorations. But many pet owners know the challenge of keeping their festive decor intact with animals around the house.
Many of us have experienced a Christmas tree toppled by a curious cat, and many have desperately searched for cat-proof solution to this seasonal headache. But now, one company is offering a special Christmas tree designed to be “feline-friendly.”
Cat food brand Fancy Feast is giving away a “FeastiviTREE” to some lucky cat owners. The hand-crafted product is specially designed to look like a traditional Christmas tree, but with many unique features that make it perfect for your pet cats, including a sturdy base that doubles as a cat condo, internal climbing structures and perches that allow cats to explore the tree safely, a tree trunk that doubles as a built-in scratching post, and cat-safe decorations.
Most cats are naturally drawn to Christmas trees, with their shiny lights and ornaments, but it can be a major headache: climbing cats might break some valuable ornaments or knock over the tree altogether. The FeastiviTREE indulges a cat’s playfulness and curiosity in a much less destructive way.
“Cats love holiday trees because they’re full of all their favorite things – visually interesting, mouse-sized objects with lots of dangly movement, high hiding spots, and they’re often located in the hearts of homes and family activity,” Purina Principal Behaviorist Dr. Annie Valuska said in a press release. “The FeastiviTREE takes all the things that cats love about your traditional tree and makes them feline-friendly to meet their needs.”
The unique new product was created in honor of the 40th anniversary of their “Feastivities” holiday celebration. The trees are being given out as a giveaway to some lucky families: you can enter here through December 3 for a chance to win.
Other companies have marketed pet-friendly Christmas trees. UK retailer Argos sells a 6-foot “Half Parasol Christmas Tree” where the branches started halfway up, keeping them out of reach of clawing cats.
And of course, some families just resort to some creative solutions:
