Mother dog and her 9 puppies sealed in box and dumped in Canadian landfill

The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals needs your help.

A mother dog and her adorable puppies were discovered in a sealed box at a Canadian landfill, and the BC SPCA wants to find the person or persons responsible for dumping the dogs.

A good Samaritan found the dog, named Casey by staffers at the SPCA, and her nine puppies at the Puntzi Lake landfill on June 5, according to a press release.

“There is no excuse for simply walking away from a pet and leaving them to die,” says Lorie Chortyk, the SPCA’s general manager of communications. “Abandoning animals is against the law and individuals can be prosecuted for their crime.”

The dogs stayed at a local vet overnight before they were transferred to the Quesnel & District SPCA, where they will remain until the puppies are old enough to be adopted.

Casey is believed to be a one-year-old border collie mix and is timid, but focused on caring for her puppies.

While many would like to see the person who abandoned the dogs punished, the BC SPCA is interested in information, “but certainly if we identify the person who had done this, we would be looking at animal cruelty charges.”

Thankfully Casey and her five males and four female puppies were found or else they could have suffocated.

If you need help caring for your animals, there are resources out there. You do NOT have to abandon them.
