Couple discovers squirrel had been using their car as a storage unit

Holly Persic was at her local library in Pennsylvania, when something didn’t appear right with her vehicle. She called her husband, Chris, and told him her car smelled like it was burning.

Chris asked her to pop the hood, and lo and behold, Holly discovered the issue. Underneath the hood was lots of grass and more than 200 walnuts.

“They were everywhere, under the battery, near the radiator fan,” Chris told CNN. “The walnuts on the engine block were black and smelt like they were definitely roasting.”

“The squirrels worked pretty fast!”

Holly reportedly had her car inspected a month earlier, and everything checked out. But what the couple failed to pay close attention to was where all the walnuts went that had fallen from the large tree in their yard.

Apparently a squirrel or two thought Holly’s car was the perfect place to store all of the walnuts it foraged.

Here’s a little PSA for everyone on this rainy Monday:Rodents and vehicles do not mix… My wife called me from…

The couple was able to get Holly’s car to a mechanic where they discovered even more walnuts hiding under the engine.

Thankfully the car was not damaged and only needed to be cleaned.

Holly’s car wasn’t the only one that a squirrel had decided to mess around with. Chris wrote on Facebook that at the time his wife contacted him, he was in the process of having his vehicle towed because it started to shake.

“My truck may have had a squirrel chew through/pull out a fuel injector hose, and Holly’s looked like they were storing up for the next 3 winters,” he wrote.

Chris said the moral of this bizarre story is to check under the hood of your car every once in awhile, especially if you park outside.

According to KDKA, the couple plans to remove the black walnut tree from their yard.

Thankfully this story didn’t end in a tragedy, and everyone can have a laugh.

Share this on Facebook to warn others to look under the hood of their cars. You never know what you might find!
