A kitten was nearly killed after ending up in a trash compactor — but thankfully one quick-thinking employee stepped in to save her life 😮❤️
Mark Motta, an employee of the Burlington County Regional Recycling Program in New Jersey, was on his recycling route earlier this month when he noticed something unusual among the garbage.
It was a tiny kitten, covered in oil — and in grave danger of being crushed by the compactor blades.
Motta, a cat lover, quickly jumped into action to save the cat’s life. “I shut everything off and climbed in the back of the truck to get her,” he told the Asbury Park Press.
He took the cat back to his work’s headquarters and cleaned her up. After a vet check-up the cat, now named “Squishy,” has since been fostered by another employee, the company’s safety officer.
According to a Facebook post from Rise Again Animal Rescue, Squishy paid a special visit to the man who saved her life. Photos show Motta holding and petting his furry friend.
“Squishy has been doing well after her adventures, and came back to the office today to officially meet her savior!”
While he has been praised as a hero for saving Squishy’s life, Motta said he was just doing the right thing. “Just doing my part for the cats,” he told the Asbury Park Press. “Just want her to get a good home. She deserves it.”
Rise Again Animal Rescue has been raising money for Squishy’s medical treatments; once she is old enough she will be fixed, vaccinated and microchipped before being put up for adoption.
It’s not clear how Squishy ended up in the recycling bin, whether she was abandoned or if it was just an accident, but thankfully she is safe and the future is looking bright.
Thank you to Mark Motta for stepping in to save this cat’s life! We hope Squishy finds her forever home soon!
