Police officer rescues scared kitten who was being tossed around by kids — then steps in to adopt him

It’s unbelievable how cruelly some people treat animals, but thankfully there are also kind people willing to step up and help.

Recently, one police officer saved the day after some kids were “playing catch” using a tiny kitten as their ball — and then did something truly extraordinary… ❤️

According to a Facebook post from ANNA Shelter, a nonprofit rescue based in Erie, Pennsylvania, local police responded to a report about kids who were playing catch on the sidewalk using a kitten.

Erie Police Officer Martin arrived on the scene and witnessed the “tiny terrified baby” kitten being tossed back and forth by the kids. The officer put a stop to their cruel game and took the kitten.

Officer Martin took the tiny cat to ANNA Shelter, where he was examined by a veterinarian. Thankfully the kitten didn’t suffer any broken bones from being tossed around, but was in shock and had an upper respiratory infection.

The kitten, now named Oreo due to his black-and-white fur coloring, was “snuggled, medicated and given lots of TLC” by the shelter staff while he recovered. All the while, Officer Martin kept stopping by to check in on the kitten.

Then, the officer went above-and-beyond — he is now fostering the kitten he saved and plans to adopt him!

“He decided to officially become Oreo’s dad AND hero!” the shelter wrote. “We thank him and all of our animal loving officers who keep us and the animals safe every day! Oreo will grow up safe and happy thanks to Officer Martin!”

This officer saved Oreo twice! It’s sad that anyone would toss around this precious kitten but we’re glad it led to such a happy ending! 😸
