Update: Espresso, shelter cat passed over due to different-sized eyes, finally adopted — congrats ❤️

All shelter animals dream of finding their forever home, but some are always passed over by adopters for no fault of their own. Some animals look a little different, and it seems that puts people off from wanting to bring them home.

Earlier this month, we reported on a cat named Espresso, who was always passed over due to her different-sized eyes — but now there’s been an inspiring update to her story… ❤️

On August 2, the Ohio SPCA & Humane Society shared a post about a cat in their care named Espresso. (She’s apparently named after the hit Sabrina Carpenter song: “That’s that me, espresso.”)

Espresso came to them as an injured stray who was nursing babies. Her injuries healed, and her children went off to their forever homes — but Espresso struggled to find a home of her own.

The shelter staff suspected that potential adopters may have been overlooking her due to the way she looks — namely her eyes, which are noticeably different sizes.

“Unfortunately people will see something different about an animal and tend to not give them a chance,” Ohio SPCA wrote on Facebook.

It’s not clear if the cause was a birth defect or an old injury, but Espresso’s right eye is smaller than her left. Thankfully, it doesn’t bother the cat at all or affect her health. The shelter described her as a “quiet but very friendly girl” who does well with other cats and people of all ages.

Espresso’s story went viral. Many people were shocked that the cat was overlooked for so long, and agreed that she is beautiful just the way she is.

Thankfully, all the attention towards sweet Espresso paid off: on August 9, the SPCA announced that Espresso had finally been adopted!

“We’re so happy to announce that she was adopted yesterday,” they wrote on Facebook, sharing a photo of Espresso behind a sign reading “I’m going HOME!”

“We hope her story encourages others to adopt animals that may be overlooked for whatever reason,” they added. “They are all deserving of a family to call their own.”

No animal should be ignored and passed over just because of the way they look. We’re so glad Espresso has found a family who loves her exactly the way she is!

Please share this amazing update! 😸❤️
