Billy Joel adopts rescue dog from shelter: “Now he is part of our family”

It’s always heartwarming to see celebrities adopting rescue dogs, setting a good example for their fans to “adopt, not shop.”

Recently, music legend Billy Joel became the latest star to bring home an adorable rescue pup for his family.

The iconic “Piano Man” singer revealed in a November 5 Instagram post that he adopted a French Bulldog named Bucky.

He wrote that the dog was at a San Diego shelter with a bad case of mange, and nonprofit shelter Roadogs Rescue took him in and nursed him back to health.

Photos show the adorable dog in his new home with Billy Joel, his wife Alexis Roderick and their two daughters Della and Remy. Another photo shows the Frenchie making himself comfortable in his doggy bed.

“Now he is part of our family,” Joel wrote.

The new adoption comes over a year after the death of Joel’s dog Rosie, who he adopted from a puppy mill in 2012.

“A year and a half ago, we lost Rosie and were waiting for the right rescue for our family,” the “Movin’ Out” rocker wrote.

Billy Joel has long been an advocate for animals: for instance, in 2019 he donated proceeds from his 65th birthday concert to the North Shore Animal League, benefitting their Bianca’s Furry Friends Feline Adoption Center.

He has also long been an advocate for adoption: according to Celebrity Pets, all of his family dogs have been rescues. In the Instagram caption he encouraged people to “#adoptdontshop.”

Many fans commented on the post, calling Bucky adorable and thanking the family for rescuing him. “Bucky is adorable! Thank you to you and your family for all the ways you champion and help animals in need, Billy,” one comment reads.

Billy Joel is a 6-time Grammy Award winner and one of the best-selling musicians in history: he has had 33 Top 40 hits and his Greatest Hits compilation album is one of the best-selling albums in the US.

He has been busy with a record-breaking residency at Madison Square Garden, which will conclude next year after his 100th concert.

He is the latest music star to adopt a shelter pet this year: other celebrity rescuers include Sir Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey and Bret Michaels, who recently adopted a shelter kitten named after him.

Thank you to the legendary Billy Joel for being an advocate for animals and adopting this adorable French Bulldog! Welcome to your new home, Bucky!
