1-year-old puppy was thrown from moving vehicle — community raises thousands to pay for her surgery

It’s unbelievable how cruel some people can be to dogs, but thankfully there are also kind people willing to help give these poor animals the love and care they deserve.

That was the case recently, after a dog was left injured after being cruelly thrown from a vehicle, leading to one community helping to save her life.

According to NBC Connecticut, a 1-year-old Lhasa Apso puppy now named “Amelia Airheart” was thrown from a blue SUV in Avon, Connecticut.

Local are still investigating the case, and are urging anyone with information to come forward. The little dog was seriously injured after being tossed onto the highway from a moving vehicle, shattering her pelvis in four places.

She was taken in by Town of Avon Animal Control, who sprang into action to save her life. While she was “resting comfortably” and on pain medication, it was determined that she would require a surgery that would cost about $6,000.

Despite the high cost, they remained determined to save Amelia and asked their supporters to help cover the expense.

“Decisions like this are never easy, but I’m going to do all I can to try to save this girl‘s life,” animal control wrote in a Facebook post. “She deserved better and never asked for anything but love.”

Amazingly, people responded in a huge way. Checks and donations started pouring in, and within hours they were close to covering the surgery.

In an update earlier today, Animal Control announced that they had successfully raised the money they needed and that Amelia Airheart would be undergoing surgery this afternoon.

“I am SPEECHLESS. We’ve done it,” they wrote. “THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR AMAZING GENEROSITY AND HEART.”

It’s heartbreaking that anyone would throw this beautiful dog from a moving vehicle, but we’re glad Amelia Airheart is in good hands and hope her surgery goes well and gives her a new start ❤️🙏
