30 puppies found squashed in the trunk of a car were set to be sold off illegally

While many people will spend a lot of money on a puppy rather than getting an unwanted animal from a shelter, many ruthless people are cashing in on this lucrative business.

The illegal puppy trade involves the mass breeding of puppies who are often mistreated, kept in cramped conditions and come with fake documents.

Unfortunately, these people have no regard for the welfare of these puppies and their only goal is to make as much money as possible out it.

The illegal dog trade industry is something that animal welfare organizations are constantly fighting. In one case officers were able to stop around 30 puppies being transported on a ferry in the most cramped and cruel conditions.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity the Scottish SPCA seized 30 puppies at Cairnryan Ferry Port in Dumfries and Galloway after they were discovered squashed in the trunk of a car.

An undercover inspector said, “Unfortunately the puppy trade is big business in Scotland, with thousands of dogs being brought into the country each year, from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland in particular.

“In both recent cases, the puppies were being smuggled into Scotland to be sold on for a huge profit.”

The group of very scared and confused pups included breeds such as shih tzus, bichon frise, cavalier king charles spaniels, cocker spaniels, pug, cavachons and cockapoos, and can sell for around $1,000 each.

The dogs were taken to the Ireland’s animal welfare charity the ISPCA to be cared for until new loving homes can be found for them.

I hope those responsible for this awful trade are caught and stopped.

Please share to raise awareness about buying animals from certain traders and to help support the animal welfare officers working so tirelessly to stop them.
