85-year old Jimmy lives in Puerto Rico with his wife. He loves her with all his heart, and is also a huge animal lover.
So when his wife asked him to get rid of the homeless cat who was living in their tool shed, he wasn’t sure what to do. Go against his wife and let the cat stay put? Or chase the cat away even though he felt sorry for her?
Luckily, he was able to come up with a solution that made everybody happy.
This is Jimmy. He’s a kind-hearted man who wouldn’t harm anybody.
When a homeless cat took shelter in his toolshed, Jimmy welcomed her with open arms. His wife was less thrilled – she wanted to have a cat-free garden.
“My grandpa felt for the stray cats and would leave food in the back of the house near his tool shed, a spot where my grandma doesn’t go,” his granddaughter Syl tellsThe Dodo. “This particular cat was especially friendly and got attached to my grandpa.”
The cat was pregnant
They would soon find out that the cat was expecting and a couple of weeks later she gave birth to kittens in the tool shed. Jimmy fell in love with the small kittens, but his wife on the other hand wasn’t so taken with the family of cats. Because, well, she didn’t know they existed.
Jimmy, who clearly loves his wife very much, chose to keep the cats secret from her.
The kittens got to grow up in the shelter of the tool shed, and Jimmy made sure that the mamma cat always had food.
Discovered his secret
Although Jimmy was discreet, he couldn’t keep the little family secret from his wife forever.
Three weeks after the kittens’ birth, she discovered Jimmy’s secret. We imagine she wasn’t too happy that he went behind her back, but she agreed to let the kittens stay put until they could be adopted out to loving homes.
Because who could say no to this cute face?
Even though Jimmy went behind his wife’s back, she must really love her husband. All he wanted to do was help a family in need.
Reading Jimmy’s story touched my heart. It also makes me feel sad to think about all the street cats out there who don’t have the same luck this cat mom had.
