There’s nothing a dog loves more than a game of fetch, and they’re always eager to find someone to play with. If a dog comes up to you with a tennis ball or a frisbee, you know he wants you to throw it.
But while looking for a playmate, one eager dog ended up finding a familiar face who turned out to be a real stiff.
Nova, a 1-year-old border collie, was out with her owner in The Colony, Texas, when the playful dog decided she wanted to play fetch.
Looking for a throwing partner, she approached a familiar-looking stranger seated on a park bench…
It was a statue of Abraham Lincoln!
The statue sits outside a Scheel’s sporting goods store, and it must be one lifelike depiction of Honest Abe — because in an adorable, funny moment, Fido mistook the statue for a real, living person she could play with!
“She loves nothing more than playing frisbee and chooses victims of any shape or size to play with her,” Nova’s owner told ViralHog. “Even this statue of good ole Abraham Lincoln.”
Sadly, despite Nova’s best efforts, Lincoln didn’t budge.
“She is excellent at being noticed, but Abe kept his stone-cold gaze and continued to ignore her,” the owner said. “Weird… I always pictured him as an animal person.”
For what it’s worth, the real Abraham Lincoln was no stranger to a game of fetch: he loved animals and owned several dogs in his lifetime, most famously his yellow mutt Fido.
Alas, his bronze counterpart is not so playful, so Nova gave up, hopefully finding a new partner who wasn’t such a stiff.
