It’s truly unimaginable that anyone would abandon their dog, but thankfully there are people (and dogs) who are willing to step up and give them the help and care they need.
Like one man, whose own pet dog led him to an abandoned dog in need of help — and together, they gave the poor dog a new life.
In September, William Thomas Green took his rescue pittie Cokie out for a walk in the dog park, when his pet noticed something unusual.
“Cokie ran immediately back to a corner of the park and wouldn’t stop staring at me,” William told The Dodo. “I walked back to see what she was so concerned with.”
It turned out to be another dog, who had been abandoned in the park overnight and was sleeping in a muddy puddle.
William wrote that the dog was “malnourished” and “left to die.” “She could barely move until we fed and watered her,” he wrote on TikTok.
William told The Dodo that the dog “wouldn’t leave [his] side” after he showed her some kindness. A video shows him petting the dog and giving her reassurances after the trauma she went through.
“I’m not just going to leave you here,” he says. “I promise.”
He took the dog — who he named “Lucky Lucy” — to the vet, where she was diagnosed with heartworms and whipworms, in addition to being severely malnourished.
William even helped Lucy find a new home. After a few days of healing, he drove her to Huntsville, Alabama, where the dog was adopted by family members.
“My wife’s parents fell in love with her instantly, and my younger brother-in-law did as well,” he told The Dodo. “They took her in, and she now weighs over 60 pounds and lives the happiest life of any dog you’ll ever meet.”
After the original TikTok went viral with half a million views, many people asked for an update about how she was doing. In a follow-up video, William revealed that Lucky Lucy not only was happy in her new home, but she had a best friend and “sister” in Cokie.
“She is LOVING LIFE!” William wrote. “Her and Cokie are officially BFFs.”
It’s clear that Lucky Lucy has come a long way since being left for dead, and William wrote that she was “absolutely the happiest girl EVER to come from an abusive home.”
“She’ll live out the rest of her life with a best friend and never be scared or harmed ever again.”
“It’s so great that she’s got a second chance at life,” he told The Dodo. “I don’t know how she’s so sweet after all she’s been through.”
What a sweet story. Thank you to William and Cokie for finding this sweet, abandoned dog and giving her the love she needed.
