Animal rescues take in many dogs from neglectful home situations, and sometimes these animals have serious medical problems that have gotten completely out of hand, causing suffering.
That was the case recently, when one shelter took in a dog who had a massive, 7-pound tumor growing out of his face — but now his life has completely turned around…. ❤️
Last month, the Humane Society of Pinellas, in Florida, shared a post about the journey of one of their rescued dogs, a 5-year-old named King.
King was taken in from a partner shelter, who had saved him from a life of neglect — neglect still visible on his face, in the form of a very large tumor.
It’s not clear how long the tumor had gone untreated, but it weighed a whopping 7 pounds, accounting for 10 percent of the dog’s body weight and causing discomfort and pain.
Despite this, the shelter says that “King’s spirit was unbroken,” and he had an “inspiring upbeat attitude.” And thankfully, relief was soon on the way.
Vets performed a difficult surgery to remove the large mass from his face. Thankfully it was a success, and the tumor was found to be benign.
King was not out of the woods yet, as he still had to undergo treatment for heartworm disease. But having the tumor removed was no doubt a huge relief, and the future was looking bright: weeks after his surgery, he was placed up for adoption.
“King has shown us incredible resilience and a heart full of love, and he deserves a future forever home where he can truly be the King he is,” the Humane Society wrote.
Then, on August 12, the Humane Society shared an amazing update to the story: King had been adopted!
In their post, the shelter wrote that while out on a walk, King met a construction worker who was working on their Sjouwerman Adoption Center, and the man fell in love with King.
When a tropical storm hit, the construction worker reached out and asked if he could foster King, and it proved to be a perfect match. “He fell in love with him and fate stepped in and King was adopted by this amazing man,” Humane Society of Pinellas wrote.
“Congrats to King and his furever family! We are so happy for him!”
What an amazing turnaround for this sweet dog: he went from a life of neglect, forced to suffer a 7-pound tumor on his face, to being mass-free and in a loving new home!
Thank you to everyone who helped King on his journey, we know he will be very happy for now on! Please share this story if you love dogs! ❤️🐾
