Dog returned to shelter for being “too boring” looking for new forever home

It’s always heartbreaking when an animal is returned to a shelter, but some reasons make it even worse. Adopting a pet should be a lifelong commitment, but some people return their pets for the most arbitrary reasons.

Recently one poor dog was returned just for being “too boring,” and is now looking for a true forever home.

Yesterday the Las Vegas-based Animal Foundation shared a post about a 4-year-old black labrador who was recently returned for being “too boring.” The owners said that Duke is “boring, sleeps all day, and doesn’t get up and greet them when they get home,” which proved to be a deal-breaker.

“Duke is looking for a new home because his constant napping and apparent lack of enthusiasm made him the wrong fit for his last family,” The Animal Foundation wrote.

Not every dog is the perfect fit for every family, and it’s unfortunate that Duke was taken in by a family he was ill-suited for. But Animal Foundation hopes that there is a new family out there for Duke — one that not only minds but enjoys a chill, laid-back pet.

“If anyone has ever told you, ‘you must be fun at parties,’ Duke is your guy,” they wrote.

They wrote that Duke walks well on a leash and is trained to use the bathroom outside. While Duke wasn’t that loved by his former family, many people responded with words of support, saying it was okay to be a “boring” dog.

“Duke is my spirit animal,” one person replied on Instagram.

“I’m pretty sure those are the exact qualities lots of people are looking for,” another wrote. “Duke, you rock! A very lucky family is going to find you soon.”

“What a sad excuse to return a dog to the shelter system. Heart breaks for this guy & I hope he finds his perfect forever.”

In an update, The Animal Foundation said that Duke has been placed in a loving foster home, but he is still available for adoption.

It’s heartbreaking that Duke ended up back in the shelter just for being “boring,” but we are sure there is a perfect forever home for him out there somewhere!
