Dog was left locked in tiny storage room with no food or water after owners moved out

It never ceases to amaze us how cruel some people can be to their pets. Recently, a sheriff’s office was left shocked after finding a dog left behind in a vacant home, locked in a tiny room.

On September 27, the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office shared a heartbreaking video of an abandoned dog being rescued from a tiny, 12×3 storage room.

The female dog had been left locked in the room after her previous owners moved out of the house. The dog suffered for days with no water; though the owners left a bag of dog food behind, it was left outside the locked door.

It was a heartbreaking sight for the responding officers. When they open the door, they are greeted by the dog’s weak, anxious growls and barks.

Deputy Joe Hager described pet abandonments like this as “one of the toughest parts of his job.”

The sheriff’s office said that animal control took possession of the dog. There have been no further updates; it’s not clear if the previous owners have been found or charged, or if the dog will be placed up for adoption.

The shocking abandonment left many people saddened and outraged, with many demanding action be taken. “Find out who was on the lease and go after them. This is terrible and they need to pay for that,” one comment reads.

“Poor baby! This makes me so sad, I don’t understand how people can treat their animals this way,” another wrote.

It’s unbelievable anyone would do this to their dog — we hope this sweet scared dog gets the help she needs and a new start 😢🙏
