Every shelter dog dreams of finally being adopted, but sometimes it takes time to find just the right forever home.
That was the case for a dog named Odie, who spent months in the shelter filled with ups and downs — but now he finally has the happy ending he deserves.
Odie, a terrier mix, was in the care of the Humane Society of Tampa Bay since last year. According to a Facebook post, he was surrendered by his original owners due to his “high energy.”
Odie charmed the staff with his unique looks: he has a pronounced underbite, which the shelter called “charming,” as well as a non-reducible umbilical hernia.
Besides his quirky appearance, Odie has a “goofy, loving personality” that’s easy to love. However, it has been a rocky road for Odie.
Last year, Odie was adopted by a new family. While it seemed to be a happy ending, it wasn’t meant to be: Odie was later returned to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay when his family couldn’t give him the attention he needs.
“His adopter’s health required them to be away often, and Odie prefers not to be left alone for long periods,” the Humane Society wrote.
It was a sad setback as Odie ended up back where he started, and unfortunately it proved be difficult to find a better match. Odie needed someone who could spent a lot of time with him, playing and going on walks, but there didn’t seem to be any takers.
Since his return, Odie spent over 145 days in the shelter. The Humane Society promised that he would be a “loyal and loving companion who warms up quickly and will fill your life with joy.”
Finally, Odie’s luck turned around: on August 27, the Humane Society announced that he had been adopted “by an amazing family”!
“The instant connection and love they had for one another was remarkable,” HSTB wrote on Facebook. “The Hernandez family understood Odie’s needs and was excited to go home and start their life with him!”
It’s been a long and difficult journey for sweet Odie, but we’re glad he has finally found a forever home and a family who loves him just the way he is! 😁❤️
