It’s always heartbreaking when a pet goes missing, but it’s important to not give up hope: sometimes dogs return to us when we least expect them to, months or even years after they disappeared.
Recently, one family got some truly unbelievable news when their long-lost dog was finally found… a whole decade after he went missing! 😮
According to a Facebook post from City of san Antonio Animal Care Services, a dog named Shelby went missing back in 2014, after slipping through the backyard gate.
The family was devastated. They searched everywhere, but Shelby never turned up. They heard from a neighbor that Shelby was taken by a stranger, and they reported her as stolen.
Years passed, and it seemed that Shelby was gone for good. But then last week, they got a phone call they never expected.
A local resident recently found a stray pet and contacted City of San Antonio Animal Care Services. Animal Officer Dowell and Cadet Featherstone scanned the stray for a microchip, which thankfully had the owner’s contact information.
They were stunned to discover that the dog had been missing for a decade. It was Shelby, alive and well after all these years.
According to the Facebook post, the family had naturally “lost hope of finding her” after so much time, and were “surprise.” Within hours, they arrived at the shelter and reunited with their long-lost dog.
While it seems miraculous, ACS stressed that it was the dog’s microchip that made this unlikely reunion possible, and urged all pet owners to get their pets microchipped.
We’re so glad Shelby is finally home after being missing for a whole decade! We’re sure this family is thrilled and will be making up for lots of lost time!
