When Amanda heard there was a skinny, abandoned dog living in the mountains of Evan’s Creek, Washington, she acted immediately.
She and her friend Dylan set out to try to find the poor dog.
For over an hour, Amanda and Dylan tried to coax the dog over to them using food and treats, but their plan failed.
The next day, they returned and saw the dog in the same area.
Again, they tried to lure him closer, but in vain.
That’s when the girls came up with an ingenious idea.
They decided that Amanda would lie down, “play dead,” and act as if she needed help.
So the next day, Amanda lay down on the ground near where they she thought Bear was.
And what happened two hours later filled warmed the hearts of thousands of animal lovers around the world.
It all began when someone spotted a dog at a campsite in Evans Creek, Washington.
The dog looked both scared and malnourished. And when the person tried to approach the dog, he got aggressive.
A few days later, a young woman named Amanda heard about the dog, who became known as Bear.
Amanda and her friend Dylan decided to try to save Bear and take him to an animal hospital.
They tried to attract him with treats — but to no avail. He was too suspicious of humans to approach.
So Amanda decided a try slightly different tactic.
She lay down in fetal position and played dead.
Soon enough, Bear went up to her and seemed to want to help.
He approached Amanda and sniffed at her for 20 minutes, before he lost interest and went away.
But Amanda didn’t get up and leave.
An hour later, Bear was back, and this time, he simply sat beside Amanda. Then over the next two hours, Amanda won Bear’s trust and he seemed to realize that she meant him no harm.
Bear followed Amanda to the car and she drove him to the vet.
Bear finally got the help he so desperately needed thanks to two amazing animal lovers who refused to give up on him.
The animal welfare organization Lost & Found Pets Wa State tried to locate the dog’s owner, but wasn’t able to find them.
But fortunately, a family stepped forward and adopted Bear, so he now has a loving home!
