It’s always heartbreaking when someone abandons their dogs in the middle of nowhere. There are countless stories of people discovering dogs, wandering around fending for themselves.
But what if you could stop it as it was happening? That’s the situation one woman got into when she saw a stranger abandoning several dogs and stepped in… and caught the whole thing on camera.
In 2018, a woman in San Antonio, Texas, was on her way to work when she saw a stranger taking the collars off her dogs in her car.
She knew right away the woman was planning to abandon the dogs—she was a dog foster and knew how many dogs were left behind.
“I put my shoes on quickly and ran out to the road and started recording the act,” she told Viral Hog. “I am tired of people doing this continuously in the area.
With the camera rolling, she confronted the stranger. She suggested that she surrender the dogs as strays instead, even providing suggestions to animal services. She also warned of the $500-per-dog fine for dumping dogs.
But the woman was unconvinced, and continued to scrambling to get the reluctant dogs out of the car.
As the good samaritan continued to try to talk her out of it, suddenly the woman got the last dog out, got back in her car and sped off.
The dogs watched her drive away, confused to what just happened.
“Unbelievable,” the woman says.
The video, which has gained over 900,000 views on YouTube, ended there… but this story wasn’t over.
The good samaritan called San Antonio Animal Services, who thanks to her tip were able to get three of the dogs to safety.
“If you see something, say something,” they wrote. “We would not have been able to respond as quickly as we did if the Good Samaritan had not contacted 311 first.”
Then, according to KSAT, the fourth dog was brought to the shelter… by the woman who abandoned the dogs.
She had returned to the scene, found the dog, and turned herself in, confessing to abandoning the dogs and facing a hefty fine for each offense.
It’s clear the woman got through to her eventually.
Thank you to this woman for stepping in and doing the right thing! These dogs are safe and justice has been delivered thanks to you.
