It’s hard to imagine what kind of person would want to harm an innocent horse. But sadly, it seems to be a disturbing trend: some recent horse murders have owners on edge, fearing for their animals’ lives.
But one near-slaughter was averted, thanks to two heroic dogs who risked their lives to save the day.
Three separate counties in Florida saw horse killings late last year. The horses were apparently killed for their meat. It’s barbaric, but to local horse owners it’s not completely shocking.
“It is common down south, it’s something most horse owners know about, especially in Florida,” farm owner Brena Kramer told FOX 13. “They will bleed them out and start butchering while the horse is bleeding.”
But when would-be killers came for Brena’s own horses, they were thwarted thanks to her two Rottweilers.
Three intruders entered the Zephyrhills, Florida farm and got a rope around one horse’s neck, but the dogs managed to scare them off and chase them away.
While the horses sustained some minor cuts and rope burn, their lives were saved.
Police are still investigating the situation, but horse owners are advised to stay vigilant… and maybe pick up a pair of trusty dogs.
We can’t imagine why anyone would kill a horse, but we’re so glad these dogs were there to save lives!
