Eliel was a homeless dog who was in such poor health and had suffered so much he was frightened of humans.
A Good Samaritan spotted him in a terrible condition on the streets of Honduras and couldn’t rest until he was in a shelter getting the help he needed.
He spent six hours trying to gain his trust, until he was able to secure him and get him to animal shelter Rescatistas De Animales Villanueva Cortes. (Animal Rescuers).
Eliel was only a young dog but in his short life had experienced such neglect that he was suffering with a skin condition which had left him without fur.
A Facebook post on the nonprofit’s website read: “He tested positive for Ehrlichia and Anaplasma (both diseases caused by ticks), he was full of parasites, and his skin was full of mites.
“Eliel has an injured leg and in a month will need an operation. And most importantly, this little boy is only a year and a half old and it hurts that at such a young age he suffered so much indifference and mistreatment from humans.”
Thankfully the shelter got him just in time and were able to give him the treatment, love, nourishment and shelter this poor animal deserves.
His transformation has to be seen to be believed. From the lifeless, furless animal that first arrived at the shelter to the sparkly eyed, energetic dog with a shiny coat, is truly heartwarming.
Sadly now he needs an operation on his back leg which is fractured and animal heroes are appealing for help to fund the procedure which is said to cost 7,855 HNL ($319).
I’ve never seen a dog in such a terrible state before, it’s heartbreaking. I’m so glad Eliel was found in time and I pray the money can be found for his operation.
