Easter was yesterday, and one major star shared a sweet video wishing fans a happy holiday — and showed off the newest member of the family who has been warming hearts over the past few weeks.
Last month, a rescue puppy named Mac-n-Cheese became an overnight star after appearing at the Oscars in a tribute to Betty White. His story got a Hollywood ending after he was adopted by the family of John Travolta.
Now, it looks like Mac-n-Cheese is settling in well in his new home. The Saturday Night Fever icon shared a family video on Instagram, wishing fans a happy Easter. The actor appears with his children, Ella, 22, and Benjamin, 11.
And Benjamin is holding his new pal, Mac-n-Cheese — who happily licks his best friend’s face.
The video warmed fans’ hearts, and has gone viral with over a million views.
People who have been following Mac ‘n’ Cheese’s story since Oscar night were delighted to see how well the puppy has settled in in his new Hollywood home.
And no one was more happy than actress Jamie Lee Curtis, who held Mac ‘n’ Cheese on the Oscars stage, introducing him to the world and leading to him getting adopted by the Travolta family.
“OH MAC ‘N CHEESE IS SO HAPPY!” the Halloween star wrote on the Instagram post.
The dog appeared as part of the Oscars annual in memorial segment, honoring those in the industry who have died in the past year. A few big names got special tributes, including Sidney Poitier, Ivan Reitman, and Betty White.
White died on December 31 at the of 99, just weeks before her 100th birthday. The groundbreaking comedic actress was best known for her beloved roles on shows like The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls, along with films like The Proposal.
But she was also a devoted advocate for animals, supporting various animal causes for decades, often anonymously. She often said she would like to be remembered most for her animal work.
So it was only appropriate that a rescue animal be involved in the tribute. Jamie Lee Curtis brought Mac ‘n’ Cheese out on stage, paying tribute to White and encouraging people to adopt pets.
“She was not only a Golden Girl, she was a legend who brightened every room she walked in and brought a smile to the faces of all who watched her on the screen,” Curtis says in her tribute to White. “And day in and day out for almost a century, she was a woman who cared so much for not just her two-legged friends but for animals just like this.”
“So the greatest gift you could give Betty White is to open your heart and your home and adopt a rescue dog just like Mac-N-Cheese from Paw Works. So thank you, Betty, thank you for being a friend to us all.”
The little dog delighted audiences around the world — and made a big impression on Travolta.
The actor caught up with Curtis, his friend and co-star in the 1985 film Perfect, backstage at the Oscars and couldn’t resist getting a picture with the sweet rescue dog.
This led to Travolta deciding to adopt the dog for good for his son Benjamin, giving the Mac ‘n’ Cheese a true “Hollywood ending.”
The puppy’s arrival in the Travolta household has no doubt been a ray of light for a family that has suffered some heartbreaking losses. Actress Kelly Preston, Travolta’s wife and the kids’ mother, died in the summer of 2020 at the age of 57 following a battle with breast cancer.
This weekend also marked a sad occasion for the family: it would’ve been the 30th birthday of Jett, Travolta’s first son who died in 2009. The actor shared a photo of the two of them on Instagram.
“My dearest Jetty, I miss you more than words can say. I think about you everyday. Happy Birthday.”
We’re so glad Mac ‘n’ Cheese found a home! We agree with Jamie Lee Curtis — he definitely looks very happy with his new family!
Thank you to the Travoltas for adopting this sweet dog, we know Betty White would be very proud!
