Man waits outside shelter 2 hours early to adopt the dog who won his heart

We love seeing stories of people adopting shelter pets, and some adopters truly go the extra mile, leaving no doubt of their love and dedication.

That was the case recently, when one man arrived at a shelter two hours early just to make sure he’d be able to bring home the dog who won his heart.

A man named Drew recently visited the Texas animal rescue Austin Pets Alive!, and quickly formed a bond with a 2-year-old shepherd mix named Julius.

He and his partner hung out with Julius for a half hour, and it was enough for them to know Julius was the dog for them. Drew decided to come back to adopt the dog at an upcoming Clear the Shelters event they were holding.

Not willing to leave anything to chance, Drew went the extra mile to ensure he would be the one to bring Julius home: according to a video posted by the rescue, he arrived two hours early so he could be first in line.

“I can’t wait to see him again,” Drew says in the video. “I want him to come home with me.”

Drew’s determination paid off, as he was indeed able to adopt Julius. The video shows the moment the dog is brought out to see his new family, and it’s clear he remembered them from their earlier visit: the dog runs up and starts excitedly greeting them, wagging his tail.

It’s clear that Julius had truly found a perfect home, with new owners who will always go the extra mile for him. “We’re not crying, you’re crying,” APA! wrote on Instagram.

The heartwarming adoption went viral online and moved many people. “Omg look at him he was so excited to see them,” one comment reads. “That’s so cute you know when that’s going to be their best friend.”

“Aww, he was SO excited to see you! He knew you were his forever family!” another wrote.

“Julius had every intention of adopting them that day.”

“Julius knows exactly who his people are. He’s ready to go home!!!”

According to the post, Julius has now been renamed “Bumi.”

What a heartwarming adoption story — it’s clear that Julius/Bumi has found the perfect new home!
