Newlywed couples usually aren’t thrilled when unexpected guests show up at their wedding. But for one bride and groom, an adorable “wedding crasher” proved to be hard to resist and soon became part of the family.
Douglas Robert and Tamíris Muzini, from Brazil, tied the knot earlier this month, and after they said their vows and left the church, an unexpected stranger was the first to congratulate them.
It was a stray dog, who ran right up to the newlyweds to say hello:
According to Bored Panda, the dog had been hanging out near the church entrance and happily waited outside til the end of the ceremony.
The dog’s presence delighted everyone, especially the bride and groom, who were happy to get the dog’s blessing as they said their “I dos.”
“I was surprised. I thought, ‘Look, there’s a dog inside the church,’” Tamíris told The Dodo. “My heart melted.”
The dog was an adorable presence at their wedding, and definitely provided some memorable moments and photos. But the couple thought it could be the beginning of something more.
“When he greeted us at the end, he asked: ‘Take me home. Take me,'” Tamíris said.
“The bride said to me, ‘I want to adopt him, he’s amazing,'” wedding organizer Huandra told Bored Panda. “Our hearts were in love with the puppy.”
The couple and their wedding planner had to get on with the festivities, but the stray dog never left their minds, and the next day they made plans to bring him home.
“The first thing the couple told me, right after the wedding, was that they couldn’t get the puppy out of their minds, that they really wanted to adopt him,” Huandra said.
The stray dog had wandered off, but thankfully they were able to track him to a coffee shop.
The couple named their new dog “Braiá Caramelo de Jesus” and brought him to a vet for a check-up. He had a broken paw that needed to be put in a cast, and a scar down his belly that indicated some previous mistreatment.
But thanks to this couple, Braiá will be happy for the rest of his days.
“He’s so loving. Despite everything he’s been through, he still believes in the goodness of people,” Tamíris told The Dodo. “He gives us hope.”
“He is very content, very energetic and full of life. Really, he adopted us.”
What a beautiful story — this sweet dog definitely chose the right couple. We’re so glad Braiá has a home at last!
