A close, inseparable bond between two shelter pit bulls took everyone by surprise—and now the shelter is trying to find them a home without tearing the duo apart.
The pair of dogs, Jukebox and Agatha, met each other at Pima Animal Care Center in Tuscon, Arizona. Jukebox was found as a stray and brought to the shelter in May. About a month later, Agatha was surrendered by owners who could no longer keep her.
While the shelter works to find them a forever home, the two pit bulls have formed a deep bond.
“They end up wanting to hang out together. Which we think is kind of adorable,” the shelter’s public information officer Nikki Reck told KGUN.
This kind of close friendship isn’t common in shelters and took everyone by surprise.
“Typically when a bonded pair of dogs come in the shelter, they’ve spent their whole life together,” Kristen Hassen-Auerbach, director of animal services, told The Dodo.
“But with these two, they didn’t know each other. They met in a playgroup one day and from the second they laid eyes on each other they became inseparable.”
The two dogs like to comfort each other when times get tough. Their affectionate behavior has made them the talk of the shelter, but their story went viral when they posted a photo of the two cuddling at night:

The heartwarming photo—the two big dogs sharing a single tiny bed—perfectly captures their unusual bond, and has been shared on Facebook over 11,000 times.
“Despite the fact that they are living this life of confinement, which is super stressful on most dogs, they take so much comfort in each other’s presence,” Hassen-Auerbach said.
“There’s plenty of space for them to stretch out,” Reck told The Dodo. “But they share that tiny little bed together and that’s how they prefer it.”
Clearly, these dogs are inseparable—and the shelter isn’t willing to break them apart, even if it makes the search for a forever home more difficult.
“Typically we don’t say ‘these two have to be adopted together’ because that makes it take longer for them to find a home,” Reck said. “But with these two, we just can’t bring ourselves to split them up, so we’re hoping against hope that we can find a home for them together because the two of them are meant to be.”

It may be harder to find someone to adopt two dogs at once, but luckily, Jukebox and Agatha are an attractive pair. They’re both already housebroken and are food motivated, making them easy to train.
“They’re pretty easy-going,” Reck told KGUN. “They’re smart. I just discovered in the matter of minutes here that they know several tricks.”
They’re also going for just $20 each with all fees waived, and currently it doesn’t seem like they’ve had any takers. For just $40, these loving dogs could be yours.
The shelter says Jukebox and Agatha are sure to bring joy to their forever home.
“We’re just looking for a home that’s going to appreciate them as much as we do,” Hassen-Auerbach told The Dodo. “They’re like doggy TV for us. When any of us are having a hard day or feeling down, we just go watch Agatha and Jukebox together and you feel happier.”
