Our hearts continue to go out to the people of Ukraine who are facing an ongoing invasion by Russian forces, which has upended millions of lives.
While the war is heartbreaking, we’ve still seen many inspiring stories from the people of Ukraine. Despite everything, people have still found the time to help out animals in need.
That’s what one video shows, as a Ukrainian soldier takes the time to care for a dog found in an abandoned village.
According to Reuters, the soldier was investigating a house in an abandoned village near Kyiv. He found a music box, and began to play it.
He then discovered that the house wasn’t empty after all: a black, shaggy dog appeared.
It seems the sound of the music alerted her to the fact that someone had finally shown up to help her.
Documents found in the home indicated the dog’s name is “Bavaria.” The soldier formed an immediate bond with the dog.
The war has forced countless Ukrainians to abruptly flee their homes to escape the combat and bombings. But traveling across the border with pets makes things more challenging, and refugees have been told to leave their pets behind, so it’s not surprising that the dog was left in the empty village.
But the soldier showed kindness, taking Bavaria with him. He reportedly hopes to reunite the dog with her family.
It’s clear that the dog was delighted to see a kind person come to help her, and we’re sure it made things a little brighter for the soldier, too: during war, an adorable dog can be a big morale boost.
What a sweet story. Thank you to this kind soldier for taking the time to help this poor dog — we hope Bavaria can reunite with her family soon.
