Baby ducks were trapped in a sewer grate — police use clever trick to lure them to safety

When a group of ducklings became stuck after falling through a sewer grate, police officers came to the rescue — using a clever trick to lure them to safety.

Officers from the Nassau County Police Department received a 911 call on Sunday about an “agitated mother duck” who was dangerously walking into traffic on Sunrise Highway in Massapequa, New York, according to a Facebook post from the department.

It turned out the mama duck was agitated because her four ducklings had fallen through a sewer grate. The responding officers — four patrol officers and two Emergency Service Unit officers — had to work together to save them.

According to PIX 11, the officers traced the path of the sewer system to a nearby reservoir and could hear the ducklings.

To lure them out to safety, the officers came up with a clever solution: they opened the YouTube app and played a video of mother duck calls. Amazingly, the ducklings responded to the call and waddled right to them.

The officers then cleaned up the ducklings and reunited them with their mom in a nearby creek.

Thank you to these police officers for saving this duck family! What a clever move to use the duck call video to lure them to safety!
