With everything going on in the world today, it can be hard to find some positive news. The coronavirus has forced us all indoors and canceled every event and gathering.
While it can seem like it’s no time for celebrating, life and love continue on, just adapting to the strange circumstances. Weddings are still going on with few or no guests.
So join us in congratulating one of our favorite celebrities, who tied the knot today: conservationist Bindi Irwin!
Bindi is the daughter of the late Steve Irwin, the famous host of The Crocodile Hunter. She’s followed in her father’s footsteps as an animal advocate and television personality.
The Irwins have continued Steve’s mission of helping Australia’s wildlife, most recently during this year’s devastating bush fires. Bindi and her family have helped save over 90,000 animals.
Bindi announced her engagement back in July to her longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell. He proposed on her 21st birthday at the Australia Zoo, owned and run by the Irwin family.
The couple planned their big day for nearly a year—including plans for Bindi to walk down the aisle with a koala.
But all their wedding plans were scrambled by the coronavirus and regulations on large gatherings, including weddings.
Just as Australia was issuing a lockdown limiting weddings to five people or less, the couple got married in a small private ceremony in the Australia Zoo gardens.
“There are no words to describe the amount of love and light in my heart right now,” Bindi wrote on Instagram.
While it was a small ceremony, she was still with her close family members: her mom helped her get ready and her brother Robert walked her down the aisle.
And in a way, Steve was there too: they lit a candle in his memory.
“We shared tears and smiles and love,” Bindi wrote.
Many people have been left disappointed as things like weddings and graduation ceremonies have been called off to prevent coronavirus spread, but Bindi has a positive outlook on the situation.
“We wish all of our friends and family could have been there with us, however it’s lovely that we will be able to share photos and videos,” she wrote.
“Right now we’re encouraging the world to hold onto hope and love, which will carry us forward during this profound time in history.”
Between the Australian bush fires and the coronavirus pandemic, this has been a difficult year, but the wedding news provides a bit of good news.
