A Canada goose rescued after it was found with a firecracker taped to its chest may have saved its own life.
Members of animal rights organization PETA rescued the goose at Silver Lake Park in Baldwin, New York.
Staff from Long Island Orchestrating for Nature also helped in the rescue of this very frightened bird which rescuers say “put up a fight” while whoever responsible was trying to kill it.
“They’re very strong birds,” said Nassau County SPCA President Gary Rogers. “Unless you really know what you’re doing – you’re going to get hurt or you’re going to hurt the bird.”
PETA Senior Manager John Di Leonardo says the goose may have ended up saving its own life.
“It does appear that this fuse was lit and she must have jumped into the water and put it out before it exploded. It was a life or death situation that luckily she survived,” he says, as per News 12 Long Island.
‘$5,000 reward offered’
The bird was taken to the vet for treatment and returned to the spot where she was found.
A $5,000 reward is being offered for anyone with information regarding the case.
I’m so glad this goose was smart enough to rush into the water and is okay.
Please share to help catch the person responsible for this horrific attack.
