Many people are blessed with a visit from a deer in their own backyard. These beautiful wild animals often come and go — but one man found a poor deer accidentally trapped and in agony.
Luckily, he was kind enough to help get the terrified animal free, as captured in a beautiful viral video.
In the video, posted by The Dodo, the man discovers the doe hanging from his fence, her hoof trapped in a board.
It isn’t clear how the deer got itself into this situation. It’s possible she tried to leap over the fence and got caught instead.
But it was clear the deer was in pain. The homeowner heard her crying out from his backyard, and he tried to reassure her.
“It’s okay, girl. It’s okay,” he is heard saying. “We’ll get you out, okay?”
The man went on the other side of the fence, and found the doe’s hoof wedged between fence boards, and he was unable to push her out.
“You’re hung up pretty good,” he tells the deer, who continues to cry out.
But he doesn’t give up: he returns with a plan to break one of the boards from the fence to free her.
The plan works: immediately after he breaks the board, the doe is freed and gallops off.
While the deer didn’t stay to say thanks, we know she’s grateful for the man who saved her.
The inspiring rescue has gone viral with over 9.5 million views. There are thousands of comments praising the man as a hero for helping the deer.
